My philosophy as a special education advocate

Finding someone that has the same philosophy as you can be difficult.  I think it is important for clients to know a bit about my approach before choosing to work with me. I will begin working on your case with a mindset that the school based members are wanting to do what is best for your student until they show me otherwise. I feel it is best if differences can be resolved at the table as we keep your student's needs as the focus.

When reviewing your records, I have two thoughts in mind:  First, what does the law say?  and Second, what does the data show?  I do not advocate for students based on what someone feels is the right thing or what someone wants just because they heard someone else was getting it.  All students are unique and their IEP plans and goals should be individualized as the law allows and data shows.  Special education law has procedures and protections in place that provide students with what they need based on the IDEA law and what the data shows.

Unfortunately, the federal IDEA Law that provides for students can be very confusing and complicated and many parents become overwhelmed with the process.  My job is to let you focus on being a parent while I work on determining the educational program that best serves your child to be safe and successful based on his/her unique circumstances.  My heart for kids and passion for giving hope to families is what has kept me in education for over 30 years. I look forward to working with you and your student to help them reach their full potential.
